Much like compassionate leadership, meditation is a journey. At Technalink we encourage our teams to not just stay stationary in their meditation, but to grow their skills and abilities as time goes on. What they find is that the more they develop their meditative skills, the better their meditation works for them. They’re better at reaching that point of inner peace and balance, and they reap more rewards from the meditation sessions they enjoy. Whether you’re just getting started in the world of meditation, or you’ve been meditating for years, a few power tips can improve your meditative skills and push you along on your own journey in meditation:
• Find center first – For those who are new to meditation, it can be hard to find that center when your mind simply can’t stop wandering. Whether due to a stressful day at the office or a cluttered week, getting to that point where you can clear your mind isn’t an easy feat all of the time. The OM Factor now on audiobook format is the perfect way to remind you of your center, and to get you to that place before your meditation starts. Once you’ve grown closer to your center, you’ll find that getting into the mindset of meditation is much easier.
• Be comfortable – Comfort is important in meditation, and focusing on your mantras or affirmations is made much more difficult when your body is keenly aware of being in an uncomfortable position. Have a cushion, a comfortable seat, or even a bed you like to meditate in or with and place your physical comfort as a priority. However, while it’s important to be comfortable, it’s also important to not be so comfortable that you find yourself falling asleep!
• Build gradually – Your first meditation sessions might only be a couple of minutes long, and from there you might extend to five minutes, and then ten minutes, and so on. Gradual build of your meditations can help you to master both longer and shorter sessions. Just because your regular sessions are ten minutes or longer doesn’t mean you can’t go back to having quick two or three minute sessions when necessary in between leadership tasks.
• Be kind to yourself – You never want to have negative associations with meditation, so it’s important to not be hard on yourself if you can’t get in the right frame of mind for a great restorative session due to stress or other factors. If you find that your mind simply won’t ease, take this time to be kind to yourself instead of growing frustrated.
