Stress can be a real killer. It’s well known that the effects of stress can be felt in just about every system of the body, and the longer you allow the body to feel stress, the more damage the stress will do. Feeling stress at work is something many women in business deal with every day, and it’s not uncommon for these same women in business to bring these stresses home with them. At Technalink we believe in stress relief through meditation and compassionate leadership, but we also recognize that sometimes stress is simply an unfortunate part of life.
There are a number of ways to stop from bringing stress home with you, and a few of these include:
• Set firm rules – Revisiting stress isn’t going to make it less, but women in business will often revisit stressful projects, emails, and communications after they’ve gone home. To avoid this, set firm rules for yourself in regard to accessing work projects from home and instead take the time to try to relieve the stresses you’ve felt during the day.
• Prioritize rest – Rest is one of the body’s best combatants against stress, and it shouldn’t be taken lightly. While at home, turn off all tech about 45 minutes before you go to bed, and set a strict bedtime you follow each night. Avoiding caffeine or heavy foods several hours before bedtime is also recommended for better lasting sleep throughout the night. When you begin getting better sleep, you’ll find that it’s much easier to control the stress you feel every day.
• Get in the right mindset – If you’ve been stewing in stress for your whole ride home, you can’t expect to simply switch it off when you step through the door. A good rule to follow is to begin shutting it off when you leave the office, and practice mental affirmations to leave the stress behind during your commute home.
