Whether you work in an office, or you work running a household, it’s easy to find yourself under stress. A few science-backed ways to destress after work in the office or the home are:
- Mindful meditation – A big part of spiritual management is mindful meditation, and this can also be one of your biggest combatants against stress. When one meditates mindfully, even for just a few moments, the brain begins to destress as you’re naturally brought back to center once again. - Have a banana – As simple as it sounds, a banana is a mindful snack that can put your right back on the right track. Bananas are filled with potassium, which is known to regulate blood pressure as it rises in times of stress. The American Psychological Association recommends having a banana in order to combat the physical effects of stress.
- Find a craft – The repetitive motions used in crafts like knitting and needlepoint can soothe the physical and psychological effects of anxiety and stress according to a study in the Journal of the Association of American Medical Colleges. It works much like meditation with mala beads, as you repeat the action or sound, you’re setting aside the intrusive thoughts stress floods your mind with.
- Visualize – According to the National Institutes for Health, guided imagery or centered visualization is a strong weapon to use against stress. What this means is that when you’re feeling particularly stressed, simply visualize what makes you happiest. This imagery could be an upcoming trip you’re looking forward to or a moment when you were last particularly calm and happy.
