Did you know that your workspace could be making you more anxious or stressed? With stress in the equation, soulful leadership is made more difficult, and you don’t want your physical place of business to inadvertently cause you more stress than what is necessary. A few tips for relaxing your workspace are:
• Only the necessary – When your desktop is covered in folders, papers, and documents, it’s really easy to become distracted and lose sight of what your focus should really be on. For this reason, we encourage employees to keep on the top only what you’re doing in the now. You can also invest in document shredding services to get rid of papers and documents that you don’t need anymore. Stick to one project at a time, and keep all other project materials safely tucked away. Out of sight and out of mind can help you to maintain focus on what is really important right now. Along with your important work materials, on top of your desk can rest your loose stones or mala prayer beads, which are right there reminding you to take a mediation break when you get overwhelmed.
• Get organized – Walking into a cluttered space will fill anyone with a sense of stress and dread. Getting organized will leave you with a more relaxing workspace, and you’ll often find that it helps you to be more productive as well. Using folder organizers, in/out trays, velvet pouches or divider boxes for your mala prayer beads or loose stones, and drawer organizers may sound like additional work, but it will help you to relax your space and create a more positive environment.
• Focus on comfort – Ergonomic keyboards, lumbar support chairs, office thermostats – it’s important to focus on comfort. If you’re uncomfortable, you’re going to hyper focus on that discomfort, which will actually bring down both your mood and your productivity at the same time. If you’re going to make any sort of investment into your office space, make that investment in improving your comfort.
• Add a personal touch – Small personal touches like photos, plants, or knick-knacks can also help to relax your workspace and make it feel like your own. When you feel as though you’re in your own space, and your own element, you can put your mind at ease and focus better on the tasks at hand. Essentially what you create is a feeling of being “at home”.
