It’s hard to catch a break when you are constantly on your phone or typing away on your laptop. Phones keep ringing and another meeting is coming up. Everyone’s discussing something a little more loudly than desired. Time slips away, and before you know it, the workday is over and you feel like you haven’t done anything productive.
In that kind of environment, it’s difficult to hear yourself thinking. There are way too many distractions in every direction you turn. It might just seem like a noisy day in the office, but it can be detrimental to the overall productivity of the company.
At Technalink, we encourage our employees to find and even create their quiet time in the office. The value of silence helps our staff members produce better work because they are less stressed out. It also enhances their mood and creativity as they are in a more positive emotional and mental state.
You don’t have to resort to drastic measures to solve the problem. From turning to technology to learning how to meditate, certain methods will help you achieve tranquility. Here are some things you can do to drown out all the noise:
● Put on your headphones. Noise-cancelling headphones can help in decreasing or even eliminating the noise on the work floor. Bonus tip: try listening to white noise while you have your headphones on. This can help you focus as it blocks out all the other types of sounds around you.
● Tune out distractions. For this, you need to know yourself and what distracts you. If it’s your phone, it might be best to put it on airplane mode for the duration of your work hours. If it’s people interruptions, be honest and let the other person know that you’re currently concentrating on a specific task.
● Organize your tasks. Take note of the days and times when the office gets really noisy and do your easiest tasks within that time frame. If you need to concentrate, look for a quiet place such as an empty conference room where you can work in peace.
● Discover how to meditate. It takes a lot of practice to do it, but meditation is one of the best ways to hone your focus. The more you meditate, the more you’ll be prepared to work even if you are in a noisy environment. Breathing exercises are a simple, yet effective way to clear your mind.
Noise is overwhelming, and when it gets to you, it’s hard to pull yourself out of it. Have you been longing to practice how to meditate properly even at work?
