Maintaining a healthy mindset when working a full-time job can be quite difficult. The day-in, day-out slog that occurs, especially in fast-paced working environments, can be exhausting to deal with as an employee. The resulting exhaustion can lead to drops in performance, which can then lead to a drop in morale and trust between you and your team, and that can seep into your life outside of the office. But fret not, it’s not the end of the world once you start feeling burnt out.
There are plenty of ways to push that sinking feeling away so that you can break that vicious cycle. Here, we’ll list down three after-work habits that we at Technalink believe you can do to achieve work life balance and prevent yourself from burning out.
Go Home
All things considered, most of us would do (almost) whatever it takes to make sure we’re reaching our goals at work. However, pulling all-nighters in the office and going home in the wee hours in the morning won’t only burn you out, you might also grow to resent your job down the line. Manage your time well, and if you’re working for a non-exploitative employer, your 9-5 should be enough to get it all done. Go home, get some sleep. You’re gonna need the energy tomorrow.
Leave Work At The Office
Much like the previous point, the key to work life balance is making sure you have enough time for yourself and the people you love. Don’t spend the incredibly limited time you have to yourself on worrying or catching up on work, no matter where you are. This includes learning to stand your ground when it comes to not answering calls from your boss at 4 AM. Whatever it is, it can wait. You promised to work well under pressure, not sacrifice your body and soul to the company.
Meditate
Get in touch with your spirituality and take time to meditate at least once a day. Instead of gluing your eyes on your phone before bed and in the morning, spend at least three minutes to sit in silence, calm your thoughts, and focus on your breathing. This way, you’ll be starting and ending everyday feeling present, calm, and focused.
These methods are far from the only ways you can keep the work blues from hitting you, but in general, we recommend that you try your best to maintain a healthy work life balance. It’s always important to remember the concept of yin and yang, and how the presence of both counteract each other to create harmony and balance in life, and the same goes for work and your extracurriculars.
