Staying Calm During Confrontations Modern women in business have to manage a lot of different things. As a leader, you’ll need to ensure that your company is moving towards the goals you’ve set for it and also make certain that all aspects of its inner workings are running smoothly.

At Technalink, we’ve seen firsthand that one of the biggest challenges women in business can face today is that of the employee confrontation. Whether it’s handling two employees who are arguing with one another or calming down an employee who is angry with one of your decisions, navigating this situation properly is important.

And one of the most important ways to navigate any confrontation is to remain as calm as possible throughout it. Whether it’s a short, two or three-minute confrontation or one that stretches out and becomes a weeks-long ordeal, maintaining a calm, level head is incredibly important.

Here are a few tips that can help you keep that calm approach no matter how difficult a situation might be.

  • Master Meditation – Meditative practices aren’t just great for women in business – they’re a must-have skill for anyone in today’s fast-paced business world. Meditation can help you find your center, stay calm, and reduce overall levels of stress throughout a confrontation.   • Reduce Stress – The more stressed you are overall, the more difficult it will be to stay calm during confrontations in the workplace. Reducing overall stress could be a key way to avoid temper flare-ups and help you keep your cool.
  • Talk It Out – No disagreement is one-sided. Women in business leadership positions should master the art of listening and understanding their employees. Approach each conflict without preconceived notions and instead take the time to talk to everyone involved. Try to see things from all sides, and then work about talking over different potential solutions.
  • Know When To Stop – Sometimes, you may need to walk away or take a break to give yourself and everyone involved a few minutes to calm down, clear their heads, and approach things from a different perspective. Don’t be afraid to stop things for a moment so you can collect yourself.

The key to better conflict resolution is simply being able to keep yourself calm and approach things with a level head. The tips above should help make it easier to do just that.
