When you think of different tools that can be used to improve your workplace and the overall success of your company, what comes to mind? One thing that might be overlooked is the use of meditation in the workplace. But here at Technalink, we’ve seen it work time and time again and firmly believe that along with spiritual management, meditation can be one of the keys to creating a stronger business.
Spiritual management itself can take many forms, but at its core the principle is simple – allow employees to use their own spirituality to help guide them and strengthen them throughout the workday. It’s something that business leaders can use as well, and no matter if it is through prayer or meditation, those moments of spirituality can make a big difference.
Meditation allows for a number of things including reducing stress, clearing the mind, bringing things into a more acute focus, and more. And by utilizing meditation in the workplace it’s possible to enjoy numerous benefits to a company including:
- Less workplace conflict
- Better motivation and employee morale
- Stronger connections to employees
- Better productivity
- Less turnover and better attendance
- Improved communication
- And more
There are plenty of reasons to focus on meditation in the workplace, obviously. But how can leaders who use spiritual management practices encourage it? Here are a few tips that we’ve found that can help.
- First, be open about it. Talk to employees and make an announcement if needed that meditation is allowed and encouraged in the workplace. Many feel as though they can’t take the step towards meditation simply because they don’t know they’re allowed to.
- Be sure that your team understands that prayer and meditation are both perfectly acceptable. If someone prefers a few minutes of silent prayer to meditation, they should be allowed to do so.
- Above all else, ensure that nobody will be discriminated against for their spiritual beliefs. You want your team to use their own spirituality without worrying about being judged. Create a safe environment for them to do so.
- Set aside small blocks of time each day just for meditation, prayer, or reflection. This doesn’t have to be a huge block of time 5 or even 3 minutes is enough to reset the mind and spirit in most cases. The important part is that you do give them some time.
- Offer meditation beads like mala prayer beads to help serve as a spiritual center for your team. This helps give them tools to use for better meditation results and is easy to do.
The bottom line is simple – meditation can help a company in a big way. Try to incorporate it into your daily routine and help inspire your employees to use it. It could change the way your company operates for the better.
