A business is only as good as all of the different elements that are involved in it. While success and profit may be enjoyed, it’s very possible for different aspects of a company to hold it back in some ways. One area that we here at Technalink believe deserves the fullest possible attention of all women in business leadership positions is that of workplace communication.
Workplace communication can lead to a huge change in a company’s bottom line, and women in business management roles as well as their male counterparts need to pay attention to this element of leading a company. Consider some of the benefits of good communication:
- Ability to identify problems while they’re small, before they develop into large issues
- Direct connection with employees for improved morale and productivity
- The chance to learn about areas that a business can improve on
- Easier capabilities of developing successful business strategies
- Better overall reputation and professional brand identity
In short, when you are able to communicate effectively with your team, it improves a company’s ability to grow, develop, and thrive. But a surprising number of women in business haven’t completely mastered this skill, and it’s something that needs to be looked at more closely.
Luckily, there are several easy steps that can make it possible for you to master workplace communication and help your company grow in a big way. Here are some things to remember that can help.
- Get out from behind the desk and engage with your employees on a daily basis. Show them that you want to talk to them, and let them see that you’re actively interested in their thoughts and ideas.
- If someone gives you a good idea, give them credit for it. Rewarding those who put forth ideas and business related initiatives is inspiration for others to do the same.
- If you hear something you don’t like, don’t retaliate in any way. You want your team to feel like they can talk to you openly and honestly – even if it’s telling you something that you don’t want to hear. The truth can hurt, and instead of getting angry you should try to learn from what you’ve been told.
Give your employees plenty of ways to talk to you. An open office door is a great first step and one that plenty of women in business take, but what about anonymous quarterly surveys or even a suggestion box? Use these tools to get all the feedback you can.
If you take the time to learn from your employees you can help your company grow. Improving communication is the first step to doing that, and something that deserves your time and attention.
