Leading By Example

October 28, 2016 by Alka Dhillon Leave a Comment

Leading By ExampleAt Technalink, we firmly believe that employees and their relationship with their leaders is one of the single most important factors behind a business’ success or failure. And for women in business, it’s even more important to pay attention to the way that you lead your team. Luckily, for true success at this it really all comes down to one basic thing – leading by example.

Women in business need to be the kind of leader that they would want to work for. Really, it’s a kind of golden rule that any business professional of any gender should focus on because it has far reaching consequences. Being a mindful, approachable leader that your team respects leads to things like:

  • Better morale
  • Improved employee retention
  • Improved attendance
  • Better productivity
  • Stronger communication
  • Better in-office relationships
  • And more

In short, if you lead by example, you’ll be able to show your team what you expect of them and help inspire them to great things. Here are a few tips to keep in mind that can help you lead by example.

  • Identify the qualities that you admire in leaders and that you would want exemplified in your own leadership roles. Then, strive to adhere to those examples as best you can.
  • Build strong relationships with your employees, interacting with them and engaging with them regularly. Go beyond just asking for their projects and show an interest in them and their wellbeing.
  • Make sure your employees have everything that they need. When they see that you’re concerned about their situation, it can help them strive to do better with what you’ve given them.
  • Give recognition wherever it is due, and don’t try to pass the buck if you’ve made a mistake. You need to be able to accept responsibility and to praise those who’ve turned in great work if you want to be at truly great leader.

The bottom line is simple – be the leader that you would want to work for. If you’ll do this, you’ll see your employee morale increase and see a boost to your bottom line.
