As small business owners search for strategies that can help them grow their business, one of the more overlooked factors is team and social dynamics. At Technalink, we pay a lot of attention to how inter-relational alignment between staff members progresses and changes, and we use this to inform our decisions on team formations. This practice shows strong results for productivity and innovative thinking, however, small business owners should also be aware of components that contribute to this better team formation.
- Highlighting skills – observing and interacting with employees gives owners a special insight into special abilities that can become integral to the function of the company. These may also be skill sets that are specific for certain projects, and being able to identify these employees as good candidates for a team does come from knowing them.
- Seeing alignment – although a small business owner will have alignment in goals and energies with his or her employees, it is also necessary for owners to be able to see alignment between employees. This may be a combination of personality, work practices, and even the energy that a person exudes, but ensuring this alignment on teams leads to better dynamics.
- Provide the right tools – employers do need to make sure that their project teams are actually able to accomplish the task at hand. Having the right tools can include manifest resources, but it can also include training and education. These actions help team dynamics to evolve and can also empower employees.
- Show enthusiasm – one of the biggest downfalls for teams can be a lack of initiative in completing a task. This can often come from bosses or managers who are not fully engaged in the endeavor, and this can negatively affect team dynamics. Being engaged with the teams further bolsters solidarity and the right combination of attitudes and people.
