A lot of different elements are involved in making a successful, thriving workplace. And if you ask a dozen employers, they’ll likely give you a dozen different answers as to what they feel are the key elements in a company’s success. However, here at Technalink there is one key element that we feel is a must-have ingredient for any good workplace – solid communication.
Good communication between employers and their employees as well as between all employees is a major driving force behind business success. And it’s also something that directly influences everything about your business. Solid communication helps promote better:
- Morale
- Mindfulness
- Empathy
- Project completion
- Teamwork
- Productivity
- Profit
Simply put, strong communication translates to a team that works better with one another, feels better about how their company treats them, and more. It can even help foster things like solid self-esteem and better workplace spirituality. But just how do you ensure that your communication is strong within the work environment? There are several different things worth paying attention to. Here are a few tips to keep in mind.
- Don’t make employees feel afraid to come forwards with ideas or thoughts. This can stifle communication and make it harder to identify where your company needs improvement. If nothing else, consider an anonymous survey or suggestion box that allows your team to express themselves without fear.
- Try to lead by example. Talk directly to employees and to departments as needed. Work on expressing yourself clearly – your expectations, your concerns, and so on. This makes it far easier to show your employees what good, solid, honest communication looks like.
- Meetings or buzz sessions can create a great place for your employees to talk to one another and to you. It fosters a stronger sense of communication and can lead to much greater results.
- Promote good communication by giving employees tools and resources that support them. Do your team members have your email address, for example? Providing it to them gives them a way to talk to you even when your schedules don’t align perfectly.
Building a more mindful, healthy workplace is important but many people don’t’ fully realize that communication is the foundation of that end goal. If you’re trying to look for ways that can help move your company forwards and enrich the lives of your employees and your business success, take a close look at how effective your communication is within the work environment.
