A clear mind is a happy mind. At Technalink, we encourage our teams to use meditation and other mind-clearing practices to ensure we’re creating an environment supportive of mindfulness and an overall better emotional well-being. A common misconception is that only a clear mind can effectively meditate, or that meditation only “works” when the mind is clear, but this couldn’t be further from the truth. If you’re new to meditation, it’s okay if your mind is a little noisy to begin, as it’ll learn to quiet itself down with practice.
Clarity isn’t only available through meditation. Knowing a few tips can help you to better clear your mind, live in the present, and live better whether you’re in the midst of meditation or not. These practices can be carried out at home, at the workplace, during your commute, or anywhere you begin to feel negative thoughts creeping in.
First, a mind that’s running wild is a mind that is most difficult to clear. When this occurs, you can find a sensory anchor point to focus on in order to quiet those other unwanted thoughts. Running clarifying quartz mala prayer beads through your fingers to focus on touch, looking at one particular spot in the landscape for sight, listening to an audiobook like The OM Factor or a favorite song for sound, or even chewing a piece of gum for taste can all be anchoring activities. Rather than trying to think about “nothing”, think about that anchor point and try to pick out as many details as possible This takes dozens of thoughts, even intrusive thoughts, and whittles them down to one calming thought instead.
Sometimes an overworked mind just needs a break. If you’ve been busy, tired, and running on empty – and your mind is frazzled for it – that’s a sure sign you just need to focus on a little mental self-care. Puzzle games aren’t only self-improvement, they’re also a vacation for your brain. Playing simple puzzle games with cards, on a smartphone, or on a computer for just a few moments can be enough to give your mind a way to release that stress.
While clearing your mind may not always be easy, it is always possible. With a few simple tricks, you can be well on your way to being the master of your thoughts and your mental well-being.
