Technalink will always advocate for people to undertake self-improvement. The benefits of self-improvement are right in the name, as self-improvement of any kind means doing something for or about yourself that improves your living experience. However, while one of the best ways to pursue self-improvement is through correcting thoughts, behaviors, or actions, this goal is much better served when it’s done without criticism.
Criticism Isn’t Productive
There is a big difference between correction and criticism. Correction is an action undertaken to remove mistakes or improve efficiencies in behaviors or actions already taken, or to learn new actions. Criticism, however, is largely focused on pointing out mistakes and, perhaps crucially, dwelling on them.
But thinking about mistakes, and using this as a form of self-harm, admonition, or punishment, does not actually solve any problems. In fact, spending time on criticism and nothing else is a waste of time and energy and causes harm. For true self-improvement, understanding what the correct thought or action is and then putting it into practice is what actually creates tangible, positive results.
If you truly want to see the benefits of self-improvement, then the way to move forward is to focus on aspects of correction. Don’t criticize or beat yourself up for doing things the wrong way. Instead, focus your energy on finding out the right way to do it, and then devote that time and effort to actual implementation. Thinking about mistakes is far less productive than taking positive, correct action.
If nothing else, dwelling on criticism without any actual improvement in action is inefficient and uses up precious time. Instead, concentrate on actual self-improvement and take the steps required to do something right, then do it right consistently. This is the key to true self-improvement.
And if you should decide to add meditation as one of your techniques toward your goals, find the right tools, such as fluorite prayer stones, to better facilitate your experience.
