A connected team is a team that can do great things. At Technalink we emphasize team building and connectedness not only within individual teams, but in between teams for better collaboration as well. How can leaders help their teams to connect? It begins with team building activities that work for any organization in any industry.
Team building encourages groups to let their hair down and connect. It takes brilliant minds and puts them together to solve problems, support one another, and open up for better creativity and innovation, all while engaging in fun, creative, and eye-opening activities. A few ideas for simple team building in 2023 are:
• Take a field trip to an escape room – Escape rooms are a huge trend right now and they can be found in both big and small cities or suburban areas all across the United States. In an escape room, a team works together to solve a puzzle and “open” up the room to allow occupants to escape. It’s a popular activity for birthday parties, nights out, group dates, and professional team building. Challenges are unique and engaging, and they really show off the best of what a group of innovative minds have to offer.
• Introduce group meditation – Group meditation sessions don’t need to be taken outside of the office. Scheduling a weekly meditation meeting that gathers your team together to center themselves, breathe, and live in the moment is a great way to encourage a connected moment together. It lowers anxiety, builds mindfulness, and all it takes is a quiet area and a set of mala prayer beads.
• Host an egg-drop contest – An egg-drop contest is something many of your team members have probably experienced at one point or another throughout their schooling careers, and it’s just as much fun as an adult as it was in their youth. This exercise involves getting teams together to build safe “houses” for a single raw egg, that will keep the egg safe when dropped at a height outdoors. Teams work together to build a strategy, gather materials, and build their egg house, then they all get to watch together to see if their house can stand up to a tall drop.
Team building should be collaborative and fun, and the connections these activities build make them a worthwhile time investment.
