Have you ever started a project with a lot of motivation, a ton of energy, and plenty of passion just to feel it beginning to dwindle away as it goes on? You’re not alone. At Technalink we know that the best outcomes come from passionate work, but keeping that passion when challenges arise can be difficult. Learning to retain or renew your passion helps you to stay on top of your full potential. Some tips for getting the passion back for your projects are:
• Consider your impact – The journey isn’t always as exciting as the destination, and that’s okay. To keep your ambition, consider the impact of what you’re doing. While the moment may cause stress or negative emotion, know that it’s just part of the learning experience that’s taking you to a successful end. Your impact and your goals can be enough to keep the fire burning.
• Lean on those around you – Passion is contagious. If you’re surrounding yourself with others feeling as bored or as burned out as you are, you’re much more likely to feel those feelings more intensely. Your emotion can come from those around you, so keep company with passionate individuals and lean on those around you to keep your drive.
• Give up perfectionism – Perfectionism can really suck the passion from whatever it is that you’re doing. If you’re focusing too heavily on doing something perfectly, you’re more likely to drive out the positive feelings with feelings of anxiety. Let perfectionism go, remind yourself that every mistake is a learning opportunity, and focus instead on the lessons you’re taking in on the journey.
• Switch it up – Spending too much time on a particular task can become monotonous. When you find those dull feelings creeping in try switching up your tasks for just a little while to keep yourself energized and fresh. When you get back to what you were doing before, you may find that your passion and your drive has been restored.
When we really feel what we’re doing, we’re performing at our best. Maintaining that passion for your work, whether personal or professional, is key to seeing what lies within your true potential.
