When properly applied, spirituality at work can often lead to less stress and even greater productivity. This is one reason why Technalink encourages practices like meditation in the workplace. These are not elaborate rituals that require specialized spaces and hours of time but can instead be performed just about anywhere and can take up only a few minutes of time.
However, there’s more than one way to meditate, so which one is the right style for you and your workplace?
Mindfulness Meditation
One of the most popular and easy-to-implement styles, mindfulness meditation, is about taking the time to be aware of your thoughts. This is all about letting go and simply allowing your thoughts to happen, paying attention to them as they happen, and letting them naturally flow to other thoughts.
This means thoughts, feelings, and even physical sensations are experienced but are not judged. It’s an exercise in focus and observation without applying additional thought or structure.
Focus Meditation
This is the exact opposite of mindfulness in terms of execution and, for some, requires a lot of practice to build up to being able to do it for more than a few minutes. As the name implies, focus meditation is active concentration on a single idea, sensation, or feeling.
One way to help facilitate this is by using tools, such as mala prayer beads and other accessories that provide a specific point on which to concentrate. Counting the prayer beads through the routine can aid in keeping the focus targeted on a specific goal, the same as reciting a mantra, or prayer can provide a structure for specific rituals.
There are many other options for finding the right kind of meditation to bring into your workplace, and you can learn more about proper integration by reading about it. The Om Factor: A Women’s Spiritual Guide To Leadership is now available in print, eBook, and audiobook formats and focus on these topics.
