While it’s true that women entrepreneurs have come a long way in recent decades, we’re still fighting an uphill battle Women in business face challenges that their male counterparts may never encounter, and they’re expected to master these challenges while seamlessly juggling all other aspects of their lives.
At Technalink, we know how difficult it can be for women in business in today’s world, and how much further we still need to go to achieve equality in the professional workplace. The embracing of compassionate leadership has opened many doors for women, but that doesn’t mean there aren’t hurdles behind these doors that we still must overcome.
Defying social expectations is one of the biggest challenges for women in business today, yesterday, and likely tomorrow. Many women feel that they must adopt a typically “male” attitude toward business regardless of industry, setting aside their soulful leadership for a more ambitious or aggressive tone. This was even more prevalent in years past, as the rise of compassionate leadership in the mainstream has rendered this outlook more “old school” than modern. However, worrying about defying social expectations can leave women in business doing themselves a disservice, setting their authentic selves aside and losing all of the uniqueness that comes along with it.
Women also find it difficult to be taken seriously, and this rings particularly true for women in STEM fields. These traditionally male dominated industries can leave women feeling like wallflowers at networking events, as men pay less attention to what they have to say in favor of their male colleagues. To overcome this challenge, many women in business find themselves leading quietly through action, as it’s much easier to ignore what someone says rather than what they do.
Lastly, women in 2020 are also challenged with building the supportive networks they need to really thrive in the professional realm. Finding likeminded compassionate and soulful leaders is the best way to ensure you have the network and the support you need to guide you through your own journey of spiritual entrepreneurship.
While many challenges stand before women in business in 2020, they’re all hurdles that can be overcome. Women in business have come incredibly far in recent decades, and we’re still pushing further to achieve even more in compassionate leadership going forward.
