When you ask most women in business what it is that truly challenges them in the workplace, you’ll get a variety of answers. Some of those answers are even directly related to them being women in business. But one issue that all professionals have, regardless of gender, is that of time.
At Technalink, we understand – there really never seems to be enough time in the day to complete all of our responsibilities. It can make things frustrating, and if you leave that frustration unchecked it can lead to irritability, depression, high levels of stress, and more. These issues can even impact your business by changing the way that you complete work.
But for men and women in business leadership roles, there are a few steps that you can take to give yourself more time in the day and lower that level of stress. Here are some things that are worth remembering.
• Get Organized – Every minute you spend trying to locate that one document you need or trying to remember your password for a specific account is a minute you could be doing something else. If you’ll keep everything organized – in the real world and the digital one – it will free up more time than you realize.
• Prioritize – It’s easy to get sidetracked doing something that isn’t as pressing. Each week or each day, spend a few minutes and prioritize what needs to be done based on deadlines, benefit, impact on your business, and more.
• Know When To Delegate – One of the biggest challenges for men and women in business is being able to let go. Sometimes, you just have too much on your plate. It’s not always easy to admit it, but when you do and when you finally start delegating some of your less important tasks to others, it will give you big results.
• Avoid Social Media – Unless you’re logging in to upload a post for your blog or your business account, stay off social media during the workday. Browsing memes and posts from friends is a huge timewaster and can quickly cost you hours.
• Multitask when Needed – You can’t always multitask – and you shouldn’t. But there are some occasions when you need to. The key is being able to match up things that work well together. Listening to a meeting’s audio recording while getting in your workout, for example, can be a good way to kill two birds with one stone.
• Don’t Overdo Things – It’s also important not to go too hard when it comes to getting things done. At times, you simply need to be able to rest and relax and let the brain recharge. Doing so will help keep you focused and actually make you more productive, freeing up more time in the day.
These simple steps can be huge when you’re trying to give yourself more time during the day. Keep them in mind and you’ll start noticing more free minutes in each and every day.
