Separating Your Personal And Professional Lives

July 11, 2018 by Alka Dhillon Leave a Comment

Separating Your Personal And Professional LivesTodays’ women in business are nearly superheroes. They have to balance dozens of responsibilities, inspire those who work for them, lead in a meaningful way, and more. They also have two lives – their personal life and their professional one. And too often, here at Technalink, we see that some people suffer from difficulty keeping those two lives separate.

It’s a common problem for women in business, and can bring tremendous issues including:

• Stress from work impacting social interactions and family time
• Increased irritability
• Stress from family, friends, and romance creating distractions in the workplace
• Personal experiences negatively impacting decision making in the workplace
• And more

In other words, your time at work can influence your social life and vice versa. As such, it’s important to put forth some effort separating the two and making sure that you leave work at work and that your personal life doesn’t negatively impact your job performance. But how can you do so? There are a few tips that can help make it a bit easier. These include the following.

• Give yourself some time every day. Whether it’s a soak in a hot bath, a walk with the dogs, a glass of wine by a fire, or just a movie or TV show you’ve been wanting to see, taking that ‘me’ time can greatly help you stay grounded and recharge the mind and soul. • Think about what is driving your decisions and actions before you make them. When you’re faced with a situation or a challenge at work, take a few moments to really think about what’s behind your immediate response. Is that business decision partially driven by a bad mood you got in before you came to work? Are you turning down that trip out with friends just because you’re worried about work? Taking just a minute before you finalize a movement or decision could help you make a better choice.

• Use meditation. It can help you separate the two aspects of your life and maintain focus on what is important and what matters. Additionally, many women in business today find that being a spiritual leader is one of the keys to being truly great at what they do. Spirituality has a place in the workplace, and combining it with meditation could be a key to greater things.

The bottom line here is simple – if you want to truly be able to keep your private and professional lives separate, you’ll need to put forth a little effort and mind control to do so. It’s easier than you might suspect, and well worth doing.
