Those who have meditated for a long while seem to have staunch opinions about whether or not meditation should be performed at night. There are valid pros and cons for each argument.
Meditating Before Bed
If you find your mind racing before bed, meditation could be an effective tool to help clear your thoughts. For this reason, meditation has been found to be an effective tool to fight insomnia. Meditation allows you to de-stress and let go of whatever has been troubling you. If you’re someone who routinely has trouble falling asleep at night, a meditation session could be just what you need to reach the necessary state of relaxation.
Studies have shown that meditation has similar effects on the body as sleeping does. Meditation slows down your pulse, decreases your stress hormone, and drops your blood pressure. If meditation encourages your body to slip into that state so that you can then drift off into a quality night’s sleep, it may be worthwhile.
Avoiding Meditation Before Bed
Some meditation advocates believe that proper meditation should not be done before sleep. They believe that you’ll end up confusing your body, telling your body that meditation means sleep. It’s similar to any other nighttime routine. For example, if you routinely brush your teeth an hour before bed, your body knows that once your teeth are clean, it’s time to wind down. Similar concepts apply to meditation.
These advocates feel that meditation before bed can end up taking away from the true purpose of meditation. They feel that meditation is about feeling more awake, energetic, and focused as you find your inner self. If you are lulling yourself to sleep, you are not able to do this effectively. There is a big difference between relaxing, such as with a warm bath, candles, or a book, and meditating.
Do What Works For You

Women entrepreneurs are successful through trial and error, and by finding which methods work best for them. There is no difference when it comes to meditating.
If you’re a woman entrepreneur that finds you are able to effectively meditate before sleep, then go ahead and do so. If you find that your meditation sessions are suffering because you end up lulling yourself to sleep, perhaps nighttime is not the best time of day for you. Perhaps the best time to meditate at night is an hour before bed. This can allow you to have a worthwhile meditative session while also having a great night’s rest. And if you do really want to have a great sleep, experience high-quality hospital beds at the comfort of your room.
Meditation is about discovering your inner self. While there are plenty of journals, guides, and input on the web on techniques that may help, it’s up to you to discover the methods that are most effective. We are all wired in different ways. A beneficial meditation technique for me may not be effective for you, and that’s ok. What’s important is that we all try new techniques and challenge ourselves to become the best versions of ourselves.
Becoming effective at meditating will be much like the path that women entrepreneurs take. There will be tests and hardships. There will be failures and successes. Along the way, you’ll discover who you are as a person and discover what works for you and what doesn’t. If you wish to find inner peace, you must remember this throughout your journey.
