Everyone talks about the importance of achieving a work/life balance. This is because many entrepreneurs often sacrifice their life and self-care for work. Most of the time the advice surrounding achieving the perfect work/life balance come down to viewing the two as separate. However, spiritual entrepreneurs are not concerned about a work/life balance, as they are considered one in the same. Spiritual entrepreneurs empower their work with their spiritual selves, so work is ultimately seen as a method to practice their values and live their best life. Thus, spiritual entrepreneurs always have a work/life balance. Rather than thinking about ways to achieve a work/life balance in the traditional sense, here are some ways to empower your work with your spiritual life so that you never have to worry about sacrificing one for the other:
1. Challenge the norms: You have to challenge yourself to break through your emotional barriers and insecurities in order to achieve balance in your life. Many of us think we need a work/life balance because we feel guilty for not dedicated all our time to specific areas of our lives. We have to let go of what we “should be doing” and transform our thinking into how to integrate all of these pieces into a harmonious whole.
2. Work in an industry that fits your calling in life: A life lived pursuing your spiritual calling, is the best possible life. If you work in an industry that is your passion, work will never feel like work. Whether you are helping people or selling a product to improve people’s lives, if it meets your calling, you’ll never think about how work is interrupting your true purpose.
3. Give yourself permission to make money from your passion: Most of us think about spiritual pursuits as wholly altruistic, so we should never profit from them. By default, they are automatically considered separate from our work lives. However, you are not doing a disservice to yourself or your community by turning your passion into a sustainable career. This is really a challenging perspective to take on, but with deliberacy and mindfulness you can find a way to
4. Use work as a means of personal development: One of the drivers of pursuing the concept of a work/life balance is because many of us feel our personal lives in the only area we can pursue personal development. However, if you are present in your work, you will see that you can develop the most important areas of your spiritual being. Every work challenge is an opportunity to express kindness and compassion and to learn about yourself, others, and the world around us.
Empowering your work life with your spiritual self takes focus and a deeper spiritual connection. This transition may take some guidance which is why Alka Dhillon wrote the Om Factor.
