A spiritual entrepreneur is an entrepreneur with empathy, and showing empathy outwardly is how you get this idea to spread all throughout your workplace. At Technalink, we encourage all compassionate leaders and employees to show their empathy with action, proving that they not only talk the talk but walk the walk as well. There are many ways to outwardly show empathy at work, some you can begin using as soon as tomorrow to spread empathy throughout your workplace.
One really simple way to show empathy at work in a meeting or collaborative setting is to simply put your viewpoint on the burner. Rather than fighting for your idea or opinion, allow it to rest while you really listen to what those around you have to say. Not only will this be a practice that others begin to adapt to easily, but it could even make a positive impact on the development of your idea. Listening to others could give you new tidbits you may not have thought of before, which can then be used to develop your own plan into something even better.
Next, when you see something you like, understand, or see, express this opinion to the person you’re communicating with. This is something that not only works in the workplace, but in your personal or family life as well, and it really opens up communication lines and leaves others feeling good about communicating with you. This simple gesture of acknowledgment can make an incredibly sizable impact.
Lastly, if you’re making a decision or trying to come up with a plan, don’t be afraid to ask for other perspectives. Particularly if this person isn’t an open communicator, asking them what their opinion is on a certain topic can be that icebreaker that finally opens up that communication line and allows them to feel comfortable expressing themselves more. The big benefit? You’ll get to experience viewpoints that positively impact your own decision making regarding a particular topic.
Empathy is a big part of compassionate leadership, and outwardly showing it can help to spread that compassion all throughout the place you spend much of your time during the day. With empathy, an environment can grow to be a more positive place and a place where people feel a passion to strive for their best.
