Staying At Home Is Still Work

December 29, 2017 by Alka Dhillon Leave a Comment

staying-at-home-is-still-workAt Technalink, we often talk about soulful leadership in the context of running your own business. But if you’re really interested in maintaining a spiritual lifestyle, you have to remember, spirituality isn’t something that’s only for professional work. In fact, in many respects, spirituality is one of the most important requirements for peo-ple that are making one of the biggest commitments of their lives; deciding to stay home, and look after that home and family. And we salute every woman or man that chooses to undertake this responsibility.

Home Is The Foundation Of Spirituality

It doesn’t matter whether you get paid in stock incentives, a monthly salary, or nothing at all because you vol-unteer, or you decide to put family first and stay at home. When you do work, it is work, and the place that work is done is your workplace. The big difference for people who make the choice to stay at home is that the work done there requires more soulful leadership than just about any other. And the reason for that is because eve-rything you say and do at home while raising a family is going to shape who those children eventually become.

What kind of people do you want them to become? We have nothing but respect for the people that decide to devote their time to making their home and their family the best things they can be. It doesn’t matter that there’s no signed, taxed salary at the end of the month with this kind of work. The end result is a home, with children, that are one step closer to having a better understanding of their world. They are one step closer to making the right choices in life. Most important of all, with soulful leadership that makes an impact, they are one step clos-er to realizing their own actions, and making the world a better place.

Make The Moments Count

As a stay-at-home parent, regardless of gender, the decision to care for a home—and its occupants—fulltime is more important today than ever before. Children have much more access to information than they ever had, and all of it, good, bad, real, fake, educational or harmful is potentially just a Google search away. Soulful leader-ship for today’s children is critical to healthy, normal emotional development, especially in a world of conflicting information overload.

This is the chance to really engage with a developing person, create a safe, nurturing environment, and, just like a true manager or CEO, inspire people. This is especially important for children who have yet to discover who they truly are. Give them the space to make their own decisions, to find out what matters to them, to examine their belief. Engage with them and challenge their thinking, so they learn themselves to think critically and ana-lyze what they encounter, arriving at their own decisions, instead of just believing everything they see and read.

These are all things that can only happen at home, with proper guidance. Education at school is important, but it is the world and people children encounter once they leave the school that will have a big impact on shaping who they are. As someone choosing to stay at home, you are a critical first point of contact, especially in their younger years. Deciding to stay home and look after both the home and family is a choice, and it is an im-portant choice. It is not something that should be done lightly, we applaud anyone that decides to put the work in to make one of the most sacred spaces—the home—one of the best places to be
