Most people look forward to their lunch break as a period of time to settle down, refocus, and reenergize their bodies and minds, but are you really reenergizing? In today’s fast paced world, an easy lunch is often an unhealthy lunch, and rushing through a processed meal can actually be doing you more harm than good in your compassionate leadership. For women in business, a lunch break should be used to its full potential, as you take the opportunity to not only nourish your body for the right now, but for the long-term as well.
When we’re busy and stressed, we will often find ourselves working through an easy way to stop the stomach growls and hunger pangs. However, at Technalink, we realize the damage this is actually doing in the long run. While you may think you’re being more productive, you’re actually slowing yourself down and causing disruption to the rest of your day. Let’s say that your lunch hour is at the halfway point of your day, and you still have 3 or 4 more hours to work after lunch is through. By pushing through and unhealthy lunch, you may have worked during that extra hour, but you’ll find yourself feeling sluggish and burned out more quickly, which can lead to 2 or more wasted hours towards the end of the day.
How can you make more of your lunch break? It’s simple; take the time set aside to re-nourish both your body and your mind. Don’t work through your lunch break, but revel in the quiet opportunity you have to focus your energy and rebalance your spiritual self, and you’ll return for the last half of your day refreshed and ready to effectively take on any tasks that may be at hand.
It’s also important to consider how closely connected the body and mind are, and what you put into your body will also make an impact on how well your mind is working. Choosing something that is healthy and well balanced will provide to you the physical and spiritual energy to continue with compassionate leadership throughout your day, rather than a feeling of sluggishness or fatigue. Bright green vegetables, protein bars, and a variety of tastes and textures to enjoy is more effective in clearing your mind and nourishing your body for the long run when compared to processed or bland options.
The time you take for yourself during your lunch hour can determine your true productivity and the way your mind and body interconnect. Before deciding that you’re too busy, and opting for the quick and easy, ask yourself if you’re truly doing the best you can to encourage and nourish a healthy mind body connection.
