There’s a saying that goes something along the lines of ‘employees don’t quit jobs – they quit leaders’. Essentially, most employees who end up leaving their jobs don’t do so because of the job itself. Instead, they leave because of the leadership that is in control at their place of employment.
That’s why doing a quick self-assessment and looking at the kind of leader you really are is one of the most important things you can do. And here at Technalink, we feel that one of the key things to think about when doing that self-assessment is whether or not you’re what can be considered as a compassionate leader.
Of course, it’s easy to say that you’re a compassionate leader. The true challenge comes from actually rising to the occasion and being one. Doing so could lead to better business success in a wide range of different ways.
- Improved morale
- Better communication with employees
- Stronger sense of loyalty
- Better brand identity
- Improved sense of pride
- Better productivity and bottom line
In other words, if you become the compassionate leader that your business deserves, it will translate to an improved bottom line.
But are you really a compassionate leader? It’s not always as clear as you might think. Here are a few things to pay attention to when trying to ensure that you’re leading with compassion every day.
- Compassionate leaders treat all of their employees fairly, showing no favoritism between them.
- They also treat employees like equal. Acting as though you’re ‘better’ than they are only leads to problems.
- The best, most compassionate leaders actually value their team members and what they bring to the company, and they take steps to show them that they feel that way on a consistent basis.
- Compassionate leaders are also willing to make exceptions when serious problems occur in the lives of their employees. Sometimes things come up that are out of the control of anyone, and the best leaders understand this.
- In order to be a compassionate leader, you need to be able to show true interest in the well-being of your team. Ask them questions, engage with them, and work to improve their life.
- Compassionate, soulful leaders will provide resources to improve the lives and the performance of their team members. This could be through providing meditation beads, setting up company discounts at local gyms, offering spiritual guidance, and more.
All in all, the way you lead your business matters in a big way. Make sure you’re leading with compassion, and your company will thrive as a result.
