Often, businesses become somewhat stagnant. They don’t fail, but they don’t move forwards in the ways that they should. Often, breaking through this plateau is something that business leaders feel will require a huge change of some kind – a new partnership, a new product, or something similar. However, at Technalink we have found that small changes can often bring about some big benefits.
In short, you don’t have to completely change your business strategy. You don’t have to start creating totally new product or unveiling some new huge marketing push. Sure, these things can be instrumental in taking your company further than before, but it’s surprising how much some small adjustments can impact your business. To get an idea of what we’re talking about, here are a few examples of the kind of changes we mean.
- Stop setting up rules for your employees. Instead, create guidelines and make it clear that while you expect them to be adhered to, you understand that some circumstances may arise that render them impossible for a moment. For instance, an attendance policy may need to be ignored if a death or serious illness occurs in a family.
- Create new ways for your team to contact you and talk to you. Whether it’s an open email address, a survey system, a suggestion box, or something else, making sure your employees are able to discuss things with you is important for your success.
- Pay attention to your attitude. Do you come across as harsh, negative, or angry regularly? It may be time to consider focusing on developing a more positive attitude for yourself. It can change the way employees view you.
- Can you identify specific problems within the business that are making a negative impact? A problem employee, or a policy that is creating friction, perhaps? IF you can, consider what steps you can take to change these basic policies for the better.
As you can see, these small changes are primarily focused on avoiding conflicts and on improving employee morale and motivation. They may seem like minor changes, but they can have a tremendous influence on your business and how it moves into the future. Take the time to review your business and you may find some additional steps you can take that will lead to big changes.
