How can you expect to motivate your team when you can’t seem to motivate yourself? Self-motivation is a big concern for many in their personal and professional lives, and for leaders, staying motivated is even more important. So, how can you motivate yourself? Let’s suggest a few different ways:
- Visualize yourself reaching success – You know your goals, and when things start getting down, stop and visualize yourself reaching them. During your meditation, or simply while having a minute to catch your breath, close your eyes and visualize yourself reaching your goal, and take into account how you feel, and what you’re doing when it happens. Use this visualization to inspire and motivate yourself to make this picture your reality.
- Focus on one task at a time – Even if it seems like you have a million and a half things to do, it’s important to focus on one task at a time. As you complete this task, move on to the next, and you’ll find that you’re more motivated to go further and further and further.
- Bring the light – A well-lit room or space is a more motivating space, and switching up your lighting can actually serve to help motivate you. Take out dull bulbs and replace with brighter ones, add in a few LED Downlights, and brighten up your area to help you to stay energized and stay on task.
- Start a cycle of positivity – Encouragement breeds encouragement, and by encouraging others, you’ll feel encouraged yourself. By reaching out and helping, motivating, and encouraging those around you, you’ll feel the love in return, and this cycle of creativity can be incredible in keeping you amply motivated.
- Only compete with yourself – Looking at others and trying to compete with their level of productivity won’t be good for you, and the only person you should be competing with is yourself. When you compete with yourself only, you’ll motivate yourself, rather than being dragged down by what others can do that you’re being challenged with.
When you motivate yourself, you’re putting yourself on the path you need to really reach your goals and feel good doing so. With the right motivation, you’ll feel more inspired and confident in your personal and professional decisions, helping you to be a better leader!
