Working With Employees To Nurture Focus Through Intent

May 25, 2015 by Alka Dhillon Leave a Comment

In any workplace setting, the dynamics between individuals can be responsible for how well the company operates. However, at Technalink, we have also noticed that sometimes changes in these dynamics may not appear to have any manifest cause, but are actually an expression of intent, either realized or otherwise. What is important about this observation is that it also points out that the precursors to our actions can impact the world around us.

Intent is truly the start of change, and this can be positive or negative, depending upon the amount of awareness that we hold regarding our thoughts and motivations. It should also be noted that intent is very different from an expectation, since intent is the emotional drive that pushes thought into action. This is part of why you may witness two people who appear to be behaving in the same manner, yet come to entirely different outcomes.

Lessons And Learning

When we are able to truly define and embrace our intent, we are also able to focus our energies more greatly on the positive outcome. Working with employees to nurture this type of focus is also an invitation to a personal journey, since it is an examination of what drives the self to accomplish and persevere. In this manner, nurturing is also a form of guidance to this realization, and one that allows the individual to make the discovery on their own.

Of course, business owners can find it challenging to guide without influence, but this also becomes a teachable lesson. Working with employees in this manner does ask that owners set their intent on the process, and not the outcome. However, doing this also provides an experiential teachable that others can learn from through both observation and participation.

Showing The Contrast

Role playing in the office can provide an ideal manner for nurturing focus through intent. In this process, it is important to illustrate how the emotion behind an action can influence the outcome. To this end, having employees experience how different feelings can alter the focus of communication and interactions also facilitates the ability to stay mindful of motivation and intent. The result is that self awareness informs the direction of the energy that is put out to the Universe, and by keeping a clear intent, the focus of progress and achieving goals also gains clarity.

It is also important to encourage employees to ask questions of themselves regarding intent. · Why am I doing this? · What is my attachment? · Are my feelings and actions in balance? · How is my motivation perceived?

All of these explorations invite greater focus in the workplace, since they personalize the experience for the individual. The result is that a clearer understanding of intent becomes a direct message in the energy that is presented to others.

Inspiring A Passion For Progress In The Workplace

May 25, 2015 by Alka Dhillon Leave a Comment

At Technalink, we are often asked about the secret to business success. The truth is that there is no single answer that can apply, especially since growth is about constant change. However, the passion that every employee and owner carries into the workplace is an integral part of success. This is because the joy that is expressed through passion for a project is also an openness to collaboration, cooperation, and growth.

Inspiring passion in others is also both active and passive on the part of a business owner. The active aspect comes from how you carry yourself, how you conduct your business, and your own integrity in remaining mindful and connected with the process of growth. By expressing this action through your own behavior, you are also passively informing employees with observational learning.

From a cognitive approach, this process for learning very much engages the individual to become present for self. This is because the behavior that is witnessed is integrated as part of the personal experience. In this manner, your passion for the company inspires a similar approach from others, without any active control, but with a resonance of like energies instead.

Personal Progress

Inspiring passion in others also means being able to listen and validate both ideas and concerns. When others see that change and progress are possible, they are also more likely to engage in actions that support further change. This is because an easily overlooked facet of passion is also hope, including the hope for a better life, a better future, and better prosperity. When owners empower employees through the validation of ideas, they are also sending the message of hopefulness that further encourages the individual spirit to continue to aspire.

It can be important to understand that progress is never an end point, but an ongoing journey that can take many twists and turns. What may appear as a set-back is actually an opportunity to explore new directions, so the manner in which you handle challenges will also contribute to the passion that is felt by employees for furthering the journey. This turns every situation into one of potential, and feeds the vigor that inspires manifest work behind that passion.

This is the place where change comes from, but also the place that supports empowerment, belief in self, and confidence in abilities. Talking with employees about what drives them is also a way to encourage this energy, since it does tap into mindfulness and self awareness about the motivation behind actions. These exchanges benefit the individuals and the company, since they inform others that they are a vital part of the overall process, and that their contributions do make a difference in growth.

Learning Fearlessness, And What It Means For Your Company

May 22, 2015 by Alka Dhillon Leave a Comment

A large part of starting your own business does include learning from the experience as you go along. At Technalink, we have found that there are a lot of great ideas and best practices that do help to inform business owners about ways to grow and sustain their success. However, we have also found that every company has its own unique path, just like every person does. As a result, good advice is relative, and learning to make these distinctions is also a part of the journey.

Examining Fear

Although there are many acronyms associated with fear, one of our favorites is “False Expectations Appearing Real”. By examining the state of fear through this lens, we can also begin to discern where we end and where fear begins. This means that past experiences may have formed a perspective which limits our potential through fear expectations, but it also means that new experiences may not be sought out for the same reasons.

This can provide an ideal starting place for examining the impact that fear really has on your life and your decision making for the company. Are you holding back because you think you might lose what you have? Are you taking on the choices of others because fear is keeping you from exploring your own options? These are vital points to consider, since they not only impact you, but also your entire business.

Moving Beyond Expectations

We all need to remind ourselves from time to time, that our expectations are just an idea that has not yet become manifest. This applies to both positive and negative perceptions, and the key is that we have the ability to change our minds, and thus, change our perspectives. When fear is keeping us from taking action, we do need to ask ourselves why. We also need to have the courage to use this insight for growth.

In this respect, fearlessness becomes not so much a lack of fear, but the ability to face how these expectations are impacting us and move beyond it. This also helps to gain the clarity that is necessary for making active choices. By facing the why of the fear, we can empower ourselves to become open to greater potential. This also means that you are extending the energy to your business and even your employees, and the result is that more conscious action ensues.

When facing fears, the most important question to ask is whether the expectations are truly real, or whether they are just imagined outcomes that are based on false pretenses. In moving through these thought forms, we also begin to see the myriad paths that can all lead to the same goal of success, and realize that the potential is limitless once we have faced the expectation and let it go, so that opportunity can flow into that new space.

Are You Really Listening? Handling Challenges With Grace

May 15, 2015 by Alka Dhillon Leave a Comment

There is often a tendency for people, and especially leaders, in the workplace to have two very different personalities when it comes to routine stressors and ones that are more challenging. The expression of these different facets often comes about as a cycle, with the everyday personality maintaining positive coping, until an extreme change in plans causes a tipping point.

For others in the workplace, this sudden transformation can come as a surprise, especially if there is little communication about how the situation is really impacting you. As a result, all that others can see is the outwards expression you are projecting, even if internally you are reaching a breaking point. The concern, however, is that the re-action you express is very different than a conscious action, and this energy does influence outcomes.

Taking A Few Steps Back

At Technalink, we sometimes refer to this cycle as the “terrible twos”, partially because it reminds us of the fact that we are empowered to choose which of these two sides of our personality we want to express. The other reason is that the metaphor of childhood development is also a good way to slow down and take inventory before deciding upon an action.

As children, we learn how to relate to others. We find friendships, disagreements, and acceptance, but we also find the experience of interaction. We learn that what we do reverberates out and influences how we continue to relate to others. In this process, we also eventually graduate from throwing a tantrum to get what we want, and move into the ability to communicate needs, while also listening and understanding the needs of others.

When we face challenges, either in people or in situations, we all have the tendency to want to become a toddler again and just have the whole obstacle resolve itself.

The Choice Of Action

We have to remember that it doesn’t matter how much internal work we have done in the past, what matters is how we put that self knowledge to work in the now. When stressors are beginning to feel overwhelming, communicating this fact can be enough to diffuse the expression of the terrible twos. Part of this is simply being able to voice the challenge and reduce the amount of emotional attachment that is being held, but another part is the fact that you are starting a dialogue.

Communication is key, not only for keeping you aware of your expression but also for resolving the challenge. This also means that you have opened up a two way path for exchanged ideas, and while you are voicing your needs, it also helps to stay conscious that others are trying to do the same. In actively listening, you not only begin to hear what the other is really saying, but you also hear yourself. This allows you to utilize all of this information in finding a solution, because it allows for an objectivity that respects and validates both sides of the challenge.

Emotions And Decision Making – Are You Too Attached To Outcomes?

May 11, 2015 by Alka Dhillon Leave a Comment

At Technalink, we have definitely learned from our experiences, and while these lessons have an individual impact on personal growth, they also influence how we run our company and interact with others. Some of the most important lessons that we have gained are in regards to how emotions can alter perceptions, and how this can also change our decision making process.

One of the truly wonderful things about practicing mindfulness, at work and in personal affairs, is that it allows for objectivity in examining motivations. By stepping back and separating emotions from actuality, we can also see how the direction of a path shifts depending on these feelings.

An ideal way of conceptualizing this impact is to imagine that emotions are different lenses on a pair of glasses. When we are mindful and take emotion out of the decision making process, we can see the path clearly, and make informed choices that can lead to success. However, different emotions can represent as the wrong prescription lenses, or even glasses that are like a Viewfinder, where the image is projected, obscuring the honesty of the situation.

This comparison is also powerful for illustrating the manner that emotions and outcomes become attached. If we simply wore the Viewfinder glasses all the time, we may lose sight of where we are actually going, because we are trapped in the illusion of the emotion. What becomes obscured, however, is the full potential that is all around us, and which we can gain clarity on, as soon as we let go of the attachment to both emotion and outcomes.

This is not to say that we stop feeling, but rather that we acknowledge the emotions, observe the situation, and proceed with the knowledge of both. Before you can let go, you do have to validate what you are feeling, but this also empowers you to find the core of your motivation, and use that to guide your path, not your outcome. In choosing action that is not clouded by a temporary perspective, you also give yourself the permission to find your own way to success.
