If you’re like most people who move through today’s world, you live a double life without even really realizing that you are doing so. We’re talking about your professional and personal lives – two aspects of your day that are often quite different and separate in numerous ways. However, part of what Technalink does is try to align all aspects of your life for better success, and we’ve noticed that many don’t realize just how incredibly close the two sides of your life really can be.
In fact, your personal life can have a tremendous impact on your professional one, and vice-versa. If you’re not convinced of this fact, just take a look at some of the following examples to see what we mean.
- Relationships have a tremendous influence on your life in all ways. For example, a personal relationship could lead to constant thoughts of your significant other while on the job. If you’re in an argument, that frustration could actually impact your actions at work and sabotage your projects. On the job relationships may detract from your ability to give that special someone your full attention.
- Family responsibilities can cut into your time and also lead your mind to places other than where it should be while at work. It’s hard to concentrate when you’ve been up all night at your son’s football game, for example. Professionally, work responsibilities can mean that you have less time to do things with your children or spouse, leading to hurt feelings which can in turn impact your concentration on the job. It can create a vicious cycle.
- If you’re unsure about various aspects of your personal life – from your health to your weekend to your date last night – you may lose focus on the tasks at hand on the job. This can create serious hiccups in your ability to lead projects to completion.
Simply put, it’s important to identify how your personal and professional lives are impacting each other and then find a way for them to co-exist more completely together. This isn’t easy, and in some cases is nearly impossible. But even if you can’t completely separate different aspects of your daily life, you can certainly be cognizant of the symbiotic relationship and try to adjust your actions accordingly.
