Consider setting up employee opinion surveys or suggestion boxes that allow your team to tell you about problems anonymously.
- Try to become more of a team member instead of a distant leader. Getting involved in daily activities and projects can put you at ground zero and help you spot issues you would miss behind your desk. This also helps build employee morale and has other benefits as well.
- When a problem is brought to you, address it quickly but do so fairly. Your team should know that you’re willing to help and that you won’t be unreasonable with a solution.
As you can see, identifying hidden problems really comes down to creating a work environment that is healthy, empathetic, and mindful and also making sure that lines of communication are open. Do this and you should be able to improve your company in numerous ways.
