For anyone, fear can be a negative motivator that can block true potential. At Technalink, most of us have faced a situation at one time or another when it seemed like the only choices in life were ones that led to unknown outcomes. At Technalink, we also like to remind people that really, all of life is an unknown outcome, and times of change are constant.
One of our professional clients recently shared an experience with us that really illustrates the concept. She had related about when she had first been diagnosed with cancer, and was still working in corporate banking at time. She was determined to simply push through the disease and the treatment, while still maintaining her professional standing.
Although she remained highly effective at her job, this was becoming an intense strain on her already fragile health. She related that she would often have seizures, and try to hide in utility closets so that her peers would not see how sick she was.
This apparently progressed for close to six months, before she finally realized that she was going to have to make a change in some direction. After spending some weeks in introspection, and in conversation with her partner, she decided that maybe it was time to leave the corporate world. Of course, one of the most fearful aspects was finances, both in losing income and in having substantial medical bills.
Finally, she left the world of corporate banking, and set her sights on the vision of a cancer wellness retreat center, where she could help others who were going through the same challenges she was. In this way, she was also able to find a better way to go through her own treatment, while still establishing a new direction and a new means of sustainability.
Thankfully, this professional client has been in remission for many years now, and does run a successful retreat center that is highly accessible to her clients. By facing not only her fear of the immediate future, but also the long-term plan, she was able to take a difficult decision and turn it into one of abundance for many people. This shows the importance of moving past the fear, and coming to the heart of a situation when facing challenging circumstances.
