There have been many studies that have looked at whether or not a person is a natural born leader, or whether they have cultivated aspects of themselves to take on this role. At Technalink, we have found that there are valid factors from both perspective, but also that a multitude of leadership styles can mean that anyone has the ability to do so.
What Kind Of Leader Are You?
Understanding what type of leadership style is most appropriate for both the situation and the individual can also aid in becoming a better inspiration to others.
- Action based – this type of leadership style is very straightforward and can sometimes feel abrasive in the wrong context. These leaders will tend to micromanage, and will also be sticklers for communication and accountability.
- Tasking based – these leaders will frequently look at the larger picture of the organization and will also see the dynamics of the staff. While there may still be a distinct top down hierarchy, tasking based leaders will still seek to empower greater independence through team design and project assignment.
- Humanistic leaders – these types of leaders aim to both use and empower the resource that is the staff. Humanistic leaders tend to be more open to the input of others, but will also tend to be more passive in their leadership style. Leading through example is a strongpoint for these people, as it being available to their teams.
In looking at the positive aspects of all these leadership styles, one also becomes aware of the fact that any personality can fill the part.
Knowing Who You Are
Ultimately, any style of leadership requires that a person be confident, in themselves and in what they are doing. Meditation on personal values as well as professional goals can provide a stronger insight into the leadership style that fits a person and their organizational culture. This can make it imperative to be certain of who you are, before you can help others realize who they are.
