The Consequences Of Taking The Wrong Leadership Approach

The Consequences Of Taking The Wrong Leadership ApproachThe business world is a busy world, and today’s business leaders can get wrapped up in the “race” of it all without considering what really matters – the talented individuals who keep them moving forward in the first place. Looking critically and honestly at your own leadership can be a highly effective self-improvement exercise for today’s leaders to keep their ship happy, innovative, and successfully sailing forward.

The right leadership approach is one that is compassionate, connected, and balanced. Leaders should strive to be leaders, not “bosses”, and work to nurture the talent of their teams by showing trust and valuing what their teams contribute to the workplace. How do you know if you’re taking the wrong leadership approach? There are a few signs you can look for in your teams:

• High turnover rates – If your employees don’t seem to stick around long, then it’s fair to say that your leadership style could use some improvement. Employees will stay where they feel valued and where they feel they can succeed, and they’ll seek out these workplaces when they feel the one they’re currently with isn’t meeting their needs.

• Increased stress – Stressful times are part of life, but if you notice that these stressed moods are outnumbering the relaxed ones, you’re noticing a problem. Leadership styles that use a lot of micromanaging and pushing, rather than inspiration and nurturing, place toxic expectations on employees to work within a box. An open workplace environment that embraces the nurturing of talent is one that makes stress easy to bounce back from.

• Decreased performance – If you know that your teams are capable of more, there is something blocking them from reaching their full potential. Compassionate leadership styles let employees thrive in a relaxed, open, and compassionate environment, which naturally encourages them to take joy in performing at their best.

At Technalink we believe that the success of the team is directly related to the success of the team leader. With compassionate leadership, the entire team thrives, and the business gets to reap the reward of these talented individuals coming together to show the best they’ve got.

To become a more effective compassionate leader, have occasional check-ins to ask how you could be doing better, invest in mala prayer beads to guide your meditations and lead in the moment, and remember that every member of the team is a person with unlimited potential just waiting to be nurtured.
