How To Reduce Office Politics

February 11, 2022 by Alka Dhillon Leave a Comment

How To Reduce Office PoliticsThe business world is often regarded as competitive and cutthroat as one of the accepted routes to success. Technalink has always pushed against this idea of “nice guys finish last” and has shown that compassion, empathy, and respect for all can create not just a safer, more productive workplace but can generate profits. That ‘the reason why a lot of business people are interested on biometric applications.

This more spiritual approach to navigating the business world has shown effectiveness in the one area no business wants to encourage, office politics. Here’s how more spiritual practice can help to reduce this issue.

Encourage Understanding

The basis of all compassion and empathy starts with a willingness to understand another. Treating another person or issue in the office as “alien” or “other” typically occurs because a lack of understanding creates mistrust, suspicion, and sometimes even fear.

By encouraging people to try to understand each other, things become less opaque, and an atmosphere of empathy is easier to promote. Someone with a speech impediment who is reluctant to speak, for example, could be misconstrued as being unapproachable and cold. Understanding, however, removes these barriers of assumptions.

Promote Communication

An essential component of understanding is a willingness to communicate, and this attains maximum effectiveness if both parties are willing. It’s not enough for only one “side” or “group” to be ready to explain, share and disclose. Communication is a two-way interaction with more discovery and understanding as people explain things to each other.

Whether the communication occurs face-to-face or through online channels such as a dedicated work chat channel, keeping these lines open and engaged is crucial. Easy communication means that issues that might have flared up through a reluctance to disclose can be quickly addressed. Effective communication also means effective work operations overall.

Allow A Channel For Anonymous Feedback

One of the most common fears in the business world with employees is that a comment attributed to a person will result in blame or backlash. Anonymous channels of communication are a way to circumvent this. They can sometimes be more effective for resolving a situation, especially where the fear is someone in a managing position will retaliate against people who have made comments.

Anonymity protects those in a position from being victimized by people in superior positions. Speaking freely, without fear of punishment, harassment, or even employment termination, is important for discouraging office politics. When people don’t talk out of fear, the hold office politics gets in a workplace grows stronger.

Clearly Document Policies & Decision Making Processes

When things are opaque or unexplained, speculation will often arise to fill in whatever is missing. If someone is promoted over another person with zero explanation, misunderstandings can occur even though many sensible reasons and qualifications exist. Without transparency and an understanding of corporate policies, suspicions of favoritism, bias, and other negatives can be promulgated in the workplace, you should always have worries about hackers stealing your data.

When managers and employees understand how a policy is executed or what process was used to arrive at a decision, this eliminates uncertainty and conspiracy theories. Provided that management commits to the integrity of the following processes, this makes things clearer for everyone.

Encourage Spirituality

Bringing meditation and other spiritual techniques to the workplace can help to reduce office politics by encouraging stress management, further communication, and other benefits. This doesn’t have to be a large, structured, mandatory regimen either. Meditation can be incorporated on a voluntary, personal basis so that people can fit it into the portion of the day that suits their working schedule instead of a fixed, mandatory period of participation.

Through the use of additional accessories like mala prayer beads, meditation can become an important personal fixture that helps to alleviate stress, encourage mindfulness and contribute to office harmony, which in turn reduces office politics.
