Communication has always been a key characteristic of spiritual management and soulful leadership. The ability to be understood and, perhaps more importantly, understand what others are saying to you is a skill that businesses like Technalink have always valued, especially in management positions.
However, in 2020, communication skills have taken on a whole new relevancy and approach due to the COVID-19 pandemic, causing a massive reduction in travel for work and working in offices. Communicating online, especially with video conferencing software, is quickly becoming the new norm in office meetings and communication.
A New Set Of Etiquette
For many people, this will require learning some new communication skills. The traditional office meeting has gone online for health and safety reasons. The type of behavior and body language people cultivated for face-to-face meetings doesn’t always apply.
Now there is also a new set of technological conventions and etiquette to observe. The placement of a web camera can be too low or too high. It can even be placed at an “uncomfortable angle” for others if it renders a person in side-profile, whereas everyone else faces front. Testing microphones before going “live” to ensure everything is working correctly and you can be heard is also important now.
Backdrops Matter
Because a camera can see everything behind a person within a specific viewing range, the backdrop has become necessary as well. You can dress yourself up appropriately in the latest prom dress styles and make yourself look presentable, but if your background is a mess, this is going to reflect on your presentation as well.
Fortunately, cleaning up what’s in view of a camera is often not too difficult. Still, there are now also software options for this that let people choose their backgrounds. This can sometimes be important to present a neutral, non-distracting setting so that everyone can concentrate on the task at hand.
As we move into the 20s, new rules are being made. Good spiritual management needs to stay on top of these new conventions.
