How To Handle 4 Different Problematic Behaviors With Compassionate LeadershipSome problematic behaviors are a part of everyday life. Those exhibiting them may not even realize they’re doing so, as they may come so natural they barely think about them at all. In soulful leadership and spiritual management, it’s your job to take care of these problematic behaviors and to put a stop to them with compassion before they turn into a larger problem of a workplace conflict. At Technalink, we approach these behaviors with empathy and understanding, while still making exhibitors aware of the behaviors they’re projecting and how this effect those working around them. 4 different problematic behaviors and how to handle them with compassionate leadership are:

1. Gossip – Office gossip is something that every professional has probably experienced at one point or another. Whether it’s a passing water cooler comment or something more involved, no one likes to be the subject of it, but many don’t realize just how they may be participating in it themselves. Approaching workplace gossip in a way that explains to the person exhibiting the behavior that it has a negative effect on the vibration and unity of the office is key.

2. Blaming – When a group project doesn’t quite go as planned, it may feel natural to place blame on one or two parties and their contributions that may have lead to the failure. When handling a blaming situation, try to stick to statements based in verifiable fact that shows it was the team effort, not the single contribution, and that it should be approached as a learning experience to provide for them a better result next time.

3. Mood swings – Those who tend to react emotionally first when something doesn’t go their way can be exhibiting problematic behaviors without ever realizing it. When these behaviors are spotted, it’s important to provide some type of reassurance to calm the person down, and then to address how these mood swings can make those around them feel. While feeling and expressing your emotions is an important part of empathy and communication, it shouldn’t be done in a way that causes a negative impact to others.

4.Excessive quiet – When a person is not a natural communicator, they may feel more comfortable sitting alone and avoiding communication whenever possible. While this introverted behavior is completely normal, it may not always work in a collaborative office environment. A great way to open these types of employees up is to simply encourage open communication, listen to them when they speak, and to show them all of the benefits that come along with communicating with workmates openly.
