5 Ways You Can Feel Calmer In The Workplace Today

5 Ways You Can Feel Calmer In The Workplace TodayIf there is one hurdle that really gets in the way of your soulful leadership, it’s stress. At Technalink, we firmly believe in the power of meditation against stress, but for those who are just starting in their spiritual management journey, relying on meditation alone may not be quite enough. 5 ways you can feel calmer in the workplace today are:

1. Complete 1 small task

Feeling overwhelmed leads to feelings of stress very easily, and this rings particularly true in a workplace setting. If you’re starting your day on the wrong foot by simply looking at a long list of tasks you need done, start with a small one first. Give yourself that baby step to work from, and choose something you can finish in about a half hour or so. Once you get that task completed, and you’ve proven to yourself that you can take it on, you’ll feel more confident and in charge of whatever else the day may have in store.

2. Give a compliment

Feeling a connection with another person has a natural calming effect on the human psyche, and an act as simple as extending a compliment can reduce stress levels significantly. Compliment a co-worker on a project they’ve completed recently, or tell the barista at your favorite coffee shop that she or he has been doing a great job, and feel the calm that comes naturally with connection.

3. Start with a balanced breakfast

A balanced breakfast has more of an effect on our stress levels than we realize. Eating something high in sugar or caffeine will leave you feeling jittery, anxious, and overwhelmed, as your blood sugar spikes and your body begins to work against you by creating more stress. Start your day off with a blend of whole grain, protein, and healthy carbohydrates to give your body the natural defense system against stress that it really needs.

4. Give yourself some credit

If you’re getting down on yourself for not getting enough accomplished, which is a reaction that comes easily when you’re overstressed, consciously stop and give yourself a little credit. This moment of recognition will help you to get your confidence back, and leave you feeling empowered to tackle your next task of the day with a renewed outlook.

5. Drop in and evaluate your day

Dropping in on yourself and evaluating your day, your feelings, and your accomplishments is important to your mindfulness and soulful leadership style. When you’re stressed, you may think that you’re going nowhere, but this little self-check-up will serve as a reminder of all that you’ve achieved despite stress’ attempt to weigh you down.
