Learning To Ground Your Energy In Order To Have More Energy

Learning To Ground Your Energy In Order To Have More EnergyAny business owner will tend to have a lot on their plate. At Technalink, we often find that small business owners, and especially work from home moms, can have an even more substantial workload that they face every day. For some personalities, multi-tasking can feel energizing, but this is really just a temporary symptom of a physiological reaction.

Although this can often be seen as a positive, it still is a stress reaction. As the mind tries to organize all the tasks that are required for the day, it also begins to set about an adrenaline cascade that is similar to the fight or flight reflex. While this type of physiological response may certainly aid in getting everything accomplished, it also has considerable long-term effects on the body.

A Question Of Fatigue

While higher stress levels can help people feel energized, it also taxes the adrenal glands to the point where chronic exhaustion can become an issue. There are other side effects for prolonged stress exposure, but most small business owners will notice the fatigue and burnout more quickly. This also makes it vital that owners are taking the time to ensure that they maintain strong energy reserves to keep the company going.

One of the first steps is really in being able to recognize that a stress reaction is happening. Some key signs can include:

  • Flushing of the face
  • Ringing in the ears
  • Talking more loudly or quickly
  • Feeling as though one is coming out of the top of their head
  • Trouble with vision, especially blurriness or ocular migraines

People will experience these rushes of energy differently, but these factors are common indicators.

Beyond just identifying the reaction, it is also important to help ground the energy back within, so that it becomes a foundation for personal progress. Some good ways of grounding include:

  • Yoga
  • Breathing exercises
  • Walking barefoot in the grass
  • Physical activities and exercise
  • Taking a time out (ie. a tea break, reading a book, sitting outside, etc.)

By pulling the energy down, people are also able to create a reserve that can act as the inspiration and the motivation to keep working towards success.
