How Surrender Can Become A Key To Success

August 5, 2015 by Alka Dhillon Leave a Comment

How Surrender Can Become A Key To SuccessOne of the things that we frequently see with business owners is how opportunities can be missed, just because someone is so focused on the expectation of an outcome. At Technalink, we see this is both larger and smaller companies, and when asked about means of addressing this challenge, one of the first things that come to mind is surrender.

Of course, for many years in the corporate world, the idea of surrender is thought of as extremely negative. For so many people, it denotes a sense of loss and failure, but that is really only because our current social climate is also one that supports a disdain for any seeming weakness. In truth, the act of personal surrender is empowering, and can also give insights into flexibility and creativity that will allow for any storm to be weathered.

What Is Personal Surrender?

As the phrasing denotes, this act can be quite individual in terms of reaching a state of surrender. For an owner who feels driven to handle every aspect of the business on their own, an act of surrender could be asking for help and learning how to appropriately delegate. In this instance it can also be clearly seen that surrender becomes a means to success, in that:

  • Better team dynamics will be established
  • Greater communication will be learned
  • Higher productivity through tasking will be achieved
  • The empowerment of employees can lead to organic growth

It should also be understood that since everyone’s personal surrender is different, the weight of the need to surrender can appear different. This in no way minimizes anyone’s process for releasing the burden, regardless of what that burden is.

Seeing A Larger Picture

For business owners who are seeking greater returns on their investment, or for individuals who are searching for a personal path, surrender also provides an ability to see the larger picture. As an example, if an owner is too focused on a specific critical path, they can miss an alternate path that will also lead to success. In surrendering to the inability to control people or situations, this action also opens the owner up to a stronger alignment with employees and clients. In this manner, the larger picture shows that the flexibility of surrender provides new opportunities.

In personal work, surrender has a similar effect. We are often trapped in the negative cycle of who we should be, and this is an outside perceptual bias that we have now adopted as our own. In this case, when we surrender, we are releasing the burden of should, and opening to the potential of self.
