Choosing Your Response
People, understandably, prefer to be in control of situations. Unfortunately, periods of uncertainty tend to diminish that ability. This can sometimes be a painful reminder that we don’t always have control over the things that happen to us, or around us, such as weather or accidents.
However, we always have control over our response to the things that happen to us. For example, while we may be unprepared for a sudden rainstorm, it is not very productive to choose to simply stand in the rain, pretending it’s not happening. However, if you choose take shelter, you are not only acknowledging the reality of the situation, you are taking actions that are appropriate to that situation. This can only happen with a combination of acceptance and a willingness to work through the present circumstances.
Uncertain periods can be times of stress and anxiety, but this doesn’t mean these emotions have to be the only aspects of your life. It’s possible to manage and reduce their impact through meditation and taking other actions.
