Technalink has always been excited by developments in technology as well as developments people bring about within themselves. One of the less talked about things people can do to improve themselves is maintain their brain’s neuroplasticity. But what is this, and how can meditation and mindfulness help?
Rewire Your Brain
Neuroplasticity is, in the simplest terms, your brain’s ability to “rewire” neurons and establish new connections. When you take up a new hobby, such as learning to play a musical instrument or paint, neuroplasticity is what allows your brain to establish new neural connections to retain the ability to play a song or paint a picture.
Where mindfulness and meditation come into play is that, like learning an art or a sport, neuroplasticity makes it easier and faster to meditate and attain a state of mindfulness with repetition. Practicing meditation creates new neural pathways, and continuing to repeat these actions “sets” these pathways, making it easier to repeat these actions and attain the same results.
Eventually, what may have seemed impossible becomes difficult. Then, with enough time, what was once difficult becomes easier, and, given even more time, eventually becomes second nature. Neuroplasticity is what makes it possible for us to learn and adapt. This is one reason why learning new things and acquiring new skills once we have left school can be essential in keeping our minds sharp and still able to adapt to new situations and ways of thinking.
With mindfulness and meditation, it’s possible to keep neuroplasticity as a goal. Set this as your intention during practice, and if it helps, experiment with using meditation aids like mala prayer beads to see which tools can help facilitate your mindfulness and meditation activities. Every person has a unique and preferred method of practicing mindfulness and building up neuroplasticity. You’ll get better results if you take the time to find your own path in this journey.
