When listening to The OM Factor on audiobook, you may notice an emphasis on work/life balance and your ability to bring yourself back to center. All too often, stress is something that sneaks up in your life, quickly affecting your emotional well-being. However, there are ways to determine if you are taking on too much before those feelings of burnout begin to set in. 5 signs you’ve been taking on too much include:
- You’re beginning to resent what you’re doing – Your goals should be your passions, and they should remain so until you’ve reached them. One clear sign of over exertion is if you begin to resent what you’re doing, and if those goals start to become something you think negatively about. In these instances, it may not be the goal that’s the issue, but overexertion and stress that needs to be addressed.
- You start noticing changes to your appetite or sleep – Sometimes you may think you’re perfectly on top of everything you’re juggling. It’s all going well, your ambitions are intact, and you feel drive to reach those goals you’ve set for yourself. However, you could notice at home that your appetite is different, you’re having trouble sleeping, or you feel as if you can’t “shut it off” when it’s time to relax. These are all signs of taking on too much.
- You begin backing out of commitments – Sometimes backing out of a commitment is necessary, and sometimes it’s even healthy to ensure you’re not stretching yourself too thin. However, if you find you’re beginning to habitually back out of personal or professional plans, it may be time to assess if you’re actually taking on too much.
- Your emotions are becoming a challenge – Emotional intelligence is an important component of compassionate leadership, and a big part of that intelligence is an ability to control and observe your emotions in the moment. If handling your emotions is becoming a challenge, it may be an early sign of burnout.
- Self-care goes on the back burner – Self-care is one of your most powerful tools against burnout, and one of the first things burnout may take away is your want to take care of yourself. When you begin to notice self-care becoming difficult, it’s time to assess if you’re taking on too much and how you can bring yourself back to center.
