What’s Your Meditation Style?

January 5, 2026 by Alka Dhillon Leave a Comment

Technalink will always be an advocate for self-improvement through meditation. However, it’s important to understand that, as with other things in life, like love and careers, the spiritual journey of meditation is a personal one. People must find the style of meditation that suits them. Some of the most popular styles include:

Spiritual

Spiritual meditation is one of the oldest in the world, and, as the name suggests, is about a meditative exercise through spiritual means. For some, this can mean Christian prayer, or Hebrew Kabalistic practices, or classical Hindu meditation.

Mantra

Mantra meditation is about focusing the mind on a single idea or concept, in this case, a word. While that seems simple, it can be incredibly challenging for many people to think on and about only a single word they are pronouncing, and not allow other thoughts to intrude.

Visualization

For people who can easily conjure pictures in their mind’s eye, visualization meditation may be a good approach. This style is all about creating a mental image and then putting all focus into that. A good practice for people with a powerful, versatile imagination.

Progressive Relaxation

This form of meditation is also called “body scan,” because it emphasizes concentrating on the body, or specific parts of it, and consciously forcing those areas to relax. This can be a good form of meditation for people with discomfort or aches/pains issues.

Mindfulness

By far the most common and popular type in the Western world today, this is about cultivating a sense of mindfulness, which means being aware of and focused on the present. Instead of getting lost in thoughts and feelings, people take an observational role, viewing these experiences as if from a distance.

For people who are still trying to find the right style of meditation that works for them, self-improvement may be facilitated with accessories to help the process, such as agate prayer stones. These can be useful aids in improving the meditation experience.
