3 Skills All Managers Should Have

3 Skills All Managers Should HaveTechnalink understands that good management is about more than being qualified in your job or field. As the title indicates, management is about leadership and the ability to handle a team. Here are three skills that benefit you as a manager and as a person.

Strong Decision-Making

This should not be confused with quick decision-making, which can sometimes be a huge detriment in certain circumstances. Strong decision-making means you have a structure, or apparatus, in place that allows you to methodically weigh the factors you need to, measure them against the outcome you want, and ultimately arrive at a choice that will get you there. This can be slow and methodical; speed is not the determining factor here. Good results are.

Self-Awareness

Being able to evaluate others and see how they can be helped or improved is a valuable skill. However, it is just as important to turn this lens on yourself and be aware of how you are doing. You can’t grow and strengthen yourself unless you’re aware of which areas need to grow or strengthen. Apply the same honesty and evaluation skills you have for others to yourself.

Embracing Mindfulness

Mindfulness is the ability to step away from being caught up in thoughts and anxieties and to concentrate on the present, the here and now. Meditation is typically one of the most reliable ways to cultivate a state of mindfulness, which brings many benefits, such as clearing your mind for decision-making or increasing your sense of self-awareness as you turn the focus of mindfulness inward.

As a result, mindfulness offers both professional and personal benefits, but only if you can effectively harness it. Find a meditation or mindfulness practice that works for you. Some people may need to take walks; others may need an accessory to ease focus, such as mala prayer beads or other meditation tools. Everyone has a unique preferred method of meditation, so find the tool that works for you.
