Self-care is critical to a healthy work/life balance. At Technalink, we encourage our professionals to put just as much effort into themselves as they do their professional skills. For many women in business, taking time for yourself is difficult, and spending this time constructively is even tougher. A few ideas or suggestions for planning a perfect self-care day for today’s women in business are:
• Get cozy – When taking care of yourself, it’s important to be comfortable first and foremost. A cozy sweatshirt, a favorite pair of lounge pants, a soft blanket, and some time to enjoy a quiet moment can mean so much in recharging your energy.
• Get some fresh air – Fresh air really does the body good, and likely more than you realize. During your self-care day, give yourself 10 to 15 minutes to step outside, breathe in the air, and take in the moment. Observe what you feel, smell, and hear, and focus on how the breath feels as it fills your lungs. This small moment of meditation can give your entire day an uplifting feel.
• Take time to meditate – With your mala prayer beads in hand, your cozy spot ready, and peace and quiet around you, take a few moments to meditate during your self-care day. This helps to quiet the mind and alleviate residual anxieties, while also allowing you to appreciate the moment during a time of self-compassion.
• Take out a journal – Journaling can be cathartic and beneficial to helping you work out and analyze all different stresses or events that may be floating around in your life. During a self-care day, journaling with a focus on unpacking your stress or practicing gratitude can work to leave you feeling cleansed and refreshed going forward.
• Meet up with someone you love – A little company can do a lot for the soul. During your self-care day, make a plan to share a meal or a walk with someone you love. It can be your spouse, a friend, a family member, or even a pet, but spend this time simply living in the moment and enjoying one another’s company.
A self-care day should be treated with the same importance you’d treat a big meeting or a long-planned appointment. The benefits are numerous, and they can be felt for days after in helping you progress in your compassionate leadership journey.
