A great compassionate leader is a leader who can guide entire teams of people. Each one of these team members will have the ability to contribute to the overall success of the team in their own way. They have their own opinions, skills, thought processes, and their own learning styles. As a compassionate leader, learning how to work with these different learning styles is an important key to ensuring you can guide every member of your team to flourish and succeed.
In many instances, your team members will know or at least vaguely understand how they learn best. In some cases, however, they may not, and it becomes your puzzle to unlock. Some may be visual learners, others learn best with a hands-on approach, and some still may take in information best when they’re told with direct instruction. A few tips for leading different styles of learners are:
- Provide diverse content in training – When training your team, focusing on one type of learning style when it comes to your content will leave many team members behind. While you may learn best visually, there is a sizable chance many of those you’re trying to teach will struggle with visual being the only focus. In your training materials, work with diverse types of content. Include hands-on learning opportunities, audio instruction, visual diagrams, and open the floor to plenty of questions.
- Encourage open communication – Some learners may be a combination of two styles, with some pieces of content working best in one format and others in another, for the same individual. Encouraging open communication in your training will ensure all of your team members can learn what they need to know in just the way they need to do it.
