How often have you allowed a stressful day at the office to follow you home at night? This can destroy your work/life balance and be highly damaging to your emotional well-being, but it’s something so many professionals unknowingly do each and every day. Stress, anxiety, and chaos can be tough to shake off, but we at Technalink have some suggestions we offer to our teams to make breaking this cycle much easier:
• Take a break to exercise – Exercise is a scientifically proven way to release stress, and it’s a great way to shake off any stresses that may be lingering with you after work hours. A jog, a walk, a stop by the gym, or playing a team sport is a fun and healthy way to release this steam.
• Listen to The OM Factor – The OM Factor has arrived on audiobook, making it even easier to get reacquainted with your balance. Taking some time during your commute to listen to favorite chapters and passages can be a healthy reminder of the importance of self-care.
• Develop a post-work routine – Sometimes a routine is all your mind needs to tell the subconscious parts of your brain to relax. If you have a regular bedtime routine, you may experience this phenomenon already. As you go about the steps in your nighttime routine, you may start to feel sleepier, your mind will relax, and your body will take these cues that it’s getting time to go to bed. The same goes for a post-work routine. Going about a routine will tell your mind that it’s time to release these office stresses and get into “home” mode.
• Try deep breathing meditation – Meditation is an important part of any self-care routine, and this rings particularly true in an after-work routine. Deep breathing meditation has been proven to help release stress hormones, lower blood pressure, and improve well-being. These sessions don’t need to take long, and if you have just ten to fifteen minutes, you have plenty of time to shake off the stress after a long day.
Shaking off the chaos of the day is crucial to maintaining a healthy and balanced life. Allowing this stress to stay with you is what sets the cycle of stress and anxiety in motion, and knowing how to shake it off is your key to stopping this cycle in its tracks.
