Meditation Works Your Mind & Your Body

April 27, 2020 by Alka Dhillon Leave a Comment

Meditation Works Your Mind & Your BodyMeditation has come a long way from being an “exotic” exercise regimen from Asia to a discipline that’s found a home in places as varied as health/fitness centers throughout America, to the office. Technalink is one of many businesses that embrace what meditation brings to management and employees receptive to spiritual leadership.

This is because meditation is far more than just a trend. It can provide many benefits to both personal and professional life with a mix of mental and physical benefits such as:

Stress Management

The top benefit that many people practicing spiritual leadership see in meditation is the way it lets people better handle stress. Stress is the activation of our body’s adrenaline to ready us for an event that requires either “fight or flight.” Fortunately, we live in a world where physical dangers are much rarer. Still, our reaction to less tangible threats, such as a looming deadline, a crisis with a vendor, or a problem with co-workers falls back in this reflex, creating unnecessary distress.

Meditation lets us better handle the feelings of stress, so it does not become such a dominant force in our day to day activity. Less stress means an overall more productive, more pleasant day.

Better Sleep

One of the best ways to stay healthy is to get the recommended hours of sleep at night. This is an essential way for your mind and body to recharge, and poor sleep results in poor performance for the rest of the day. Of course, stress can have a significant impact on the ability to sleep, sometimes negating it entirely.

This is where meditation can be crucial. The same stress management techniques that may calm you down at the office can be just as effective at clearing your mind and leaving you in the receptive, relaxed state for deep, healthy sleep.

Pain Reduction

There is a famous piece of dialog in the movie Lawrence of Arabia, where the title character holds his hand over a flame. When asked why it doesn’t hurt, he replies, “The trick is not minding that it hurts.” Pain is a signal sent to your brain through your nerves.

Meditation is a way to maintain more awareness and more control over your senses. It does not make the sensation pain go away. Still, with proper meditative techniques, and the right kind of spiritual leadership, meditation can put you in a better position to feel less affected by the sensation of pain.

It’s for these, and many other reasons, meditation is as much a useful tool in the workplace as it is in the home.
