Less is More: How Doing Less Helps You Achieve More

Less is More: How Doing Less Helps You Achieve MoreEstablishing and growing a business pose different challenges. There are external factors to deal with, such as competitions, social issues, and economic and market trends. Internal challenges, including operational, strategical, and financial issues, are also bound to seek your attention. Aside from these business-related concerns, you also have personal and family responsibilities.

All of these challenges are inevitable. If you want to be among the successful women in business, you’re probably giving your best effort to juggle multiple tasks at the same time, thinking it will help you finish and achieve more. However, you might be surprised to know that the trick to getting more things done is to do less.

Multitasking Can Mean More Distraction

Many believe in the power of multitasking. Unfortunately, it’s not as effective as it seems. You can consider multitasking as the glorified term for distraction. Yes — even an important task can become a distraction if you do it while doing something else.

While it may be true that multitasking can help you finish more tasks faster, the quality of the outputs might not be as high-quality as you want it to be. When you focus on one task at a time, you can give it all your energy and thought. You can also finish it on time.

Long To-Do Lists Does Not Equate to Productivity

Women in business have a lot on their plates. A long to-do list certainly means there are so many things you need to work and finish. However, this doesn’t necessarily mean that you need to get them all done in one day. Even though all of your tasks are important, you can surely pick a few that are more important and urgent than others on your list, right?

When you don’t rank your tasks by importance, you can get distracted more easily. For instance, you might be tempted to tackle the easier tasks, thinking that it will help you get more things out of the way. In the end, you might not have enough time to work on the tasks that you should have prioritized in the first place.

Aim to Do Less Instead of Doing More

It’s great to have to-do lists, but the key to keeping them effective is to learn how to prioritize. Every day, select your top five most important tasks. Throughout the day, focus on doing those five tasks only. Doing this allows you to spend your time and energy on what truly matters at the moment.

Now, what if you finish those five tasks early? Try your best not to do work or business tasks. Your goal should be to have less and less to do as you go. Don’t stress yourself out by adding more tasks to your priority list. If you find yourself having more free time after finishing your tasks, spend it on personal and social obligations. Women in business surely have a lot. You can choose to have dinner out with your family, catch up with friends, or treat yourself to a massage!

Here at Technalink, we believe that you can be successful without being chronically stressed. Take a breather from your tasks whenever you can!
